Trevor Noah has recently made headlines for a variety of reasons. While his romance with Dua Lipa is slowly flourishing, he recently announced that he will no longer host The Daily Show. Now, Comedy Central is looking for a new host and has already set its sights on someone.

TMZ reports, Roy Wood Jr. could be getting a big promotion at Comedy Central soon. According to sources, he is in the running to replace Trevor Noah as the next host of “The Daily Show.” Comedy Central executives see Roy as someone who might potentially become the future face of ‘TDS’ for a variety of reasons.

Roy joined the show in 2015, the same year Trevor took over as host after Jon Stewart. He’s since become one of the show’s most famous faces, as well as one of its leading correspondents. With this in mind, Comedy Central executives believe Roy is a perfect fit for the role of host.

There is precedent, as the show promoted itself from within when Trevor took over after Jon. Roy’s contract is up for renewal as well. Comedy Central executives are concerned that Roy will quit the show because he is in high demand on the stand-up circuit and has gained recognition from recent outside projects such as “Confess, Fletch.” Comedy Central wants to keep Roy on the network, and promoting him to host may be the best way to do it.

CC executives have made it known to Roy that they want to meet with him to discuss his future as his contract is up for renewal. However, he has not been advised that he is a candidate to replace Trevor. The process of selecting a replacement is still in its early stages, and there is speculation that the next host could also be a woman.

As previously reported, Trevor announced his departure from the show on Thursday night’s episode, with a CC source telling the outlet that Trevor felt the daily show was too much of a grind after 7 years at the helm. Trevor mentioned Roy by name at the beginning of his farewell speech, stating Roy reminded him the other day that Noah’s 7-year anniversary was quickly approaching.

Still, it’s unclear whether Roy was aware Trevor was departing from the show prior to the surprise announcement. Let’s see what happens. To get the latest updates, keep an eye on Thirsty.
