Anna Kendrick gained fame for her starring role in the Pitch Perfect film series. She has received various accolades throughout her career in the industry. However, she has recently talked about her personal life and the “emotional and psychological abuse” she suffered in a previous relationship.

In an interview with People that was released on Wednesday, the actress said she had been “in a situation where I loved and trusted this person more than I trusted myself.” She, however, preferred not to reveal her ex’s identity.

“So, when that person is telling you that you have a distorted sense of reality and that you are impossible and that all the stuff that you think is going on is not going on, your life gets really confusing really quickly.”

The “Pitch Perfect” actress continued by describing her recovery as her “hardest task” to date. Despite knowing that everything she “thought was going on” was, in fact, going on, Kendrick’s healing has been “challenging.” “My body still believes that it was my fault … even with this concrete jumping off point for me,” the Oscar nominee said to the outlet.

Kendrick was drawn to her upcoming movie “Alice, Darling” as the lead character Alice and her partner Simon, played by Charlie Carrick, had a similar experience. The Emmy nominee was able to “minimize” her own suffering in prior movies depicting abusive relationships, but “Alice, Darling” seemed “distinct[ly]” familiar.
