Jason Momoa’s role as Aquaman/Arthur Curry received a tremendous reception, both critically and commercially. The DCEU movie established Momoa as one of the most promising stars in the industry. Recently, Momoa shaved off much of his trademark long hair to raise awareness of the impact of single-use plastic.

The star of the Aquaman film franchise shared a clip to Instagram on Monday showing his locks being shorn. “Aloha, everyone,” he began before breaking into a laugh. He then said, “Hand me those braids.” A hand from offscreen gave him a couple short braids which were already cut off by the person styling his hair.

Momoa then explained he made the decision to shave his head to raise awareness for how many single-use plastics are used and thrown away. The star then asserted, “I’m tired of these plastics bottles. We got to stop [using] plastic forks. All that s***,It goes into our land, into our ocean.” He continued, “It’s just so sad, so please anything you can do to eliminate single-use plastic in your lives, help me.”

Momoa encouraged people to switch over to canteens and other reusable water bottles rather than plastic water bottles. The Game of Thrones star captioned the clip, “heres to new beginnings let’s spread the aloha. be better at protecting our land and oceans. we need to cut single use plastics out of our lives and out of our seas. plastic bottles, plastic bags ,packaging, utensils all of it. let’s aloha our ‘āina together aloha j. @mananalu.water.” Momoa’s call to action came just a couple weeks after the third and final season of his hit show See premiered on AppleTV+.
