LeBron James grew up just outside of Cleveland, Ohio. The NBA great started his career there and eventually ended the city’s lengthy championship drought. With free agency staring him in the face after this season, many Cavs fans have been keeping their fingers crossed.

It does not appear that LeBron James is likely to return to Cleveland, however. The team seems content to build around its young core and stay away from high-priced free agents. James would certainly garner top dollar on the open market.

Joe Vardon of The Athletic noted that the Cavs haven’t been thinking about signing LeBron James. It goes without saying that James isn’t even sure whether he will re-sign with the Lakers or not. A lot of it will depend on the draft status of his son, Bronny James.

LeBron has a soft spot for Cleveland, but there are too many other factors at play to say whether he’d be interested. Regardless, the team is not. They’re hoping to build from within.

James has until the Summer of 2023 to consider his options. If Bronny turns out to be a bust, he might move on. Otherwise, he will look to the team that has the best chance of drafting him.

The Cleveland Cavaliers may have seen LeBron James suit up for them for the last time after his most recent departure. For now, LeBron will have to deal with a Lakers squad that ended last season in shambles. Cleveland won’t be as easy of an escape route as it was before if things don’t pan out.
