GoldenEye 007 is one of gaming’s all-time classic titles. An entire generation was introduced to the first-person shooter when the iconic James Bond game was released for the Nintendo 64 in 1997. Since then, fans have clamored for some sort of remake or re-release to recapture their fond memories.

Rumors of a reboot have been floating around online for quite some time. In the notoriously unreliable gaming news community, many gamers have been left to wonder if it will ever happen. In January, a series of alleged leaks suggested that Xbox consoles had achievements programmed relating to a supposed Xb0x 360 remake from years ago.

When nothing came of that, fans further grasped at straws when they found that a trademark for GoldenEye 007 was renewed in February. Despite no announcements being made by anyone, many continued to take the eventual release as gospel. A fan recently asked gaming journalist Jeff Grubb what was going on with the game. Grubb gave an interesting answer.

“Goldeneye is still in limbo because of the war. 1 v 100’s team lead left Microsoft. I don’t know what that means for the game.”

Eager gamers should once again be reminded that nobody has released any official news on a potential GoldenEye remake. At the moment, there is nothing but speculation and grasping at straws. It is more likely to be a licensing issue than anything else.

At some point, fans might finally get to see the GoldenEye 007 remake. For the time being, all anyone can do is guess. One of gaming’s greatest pieces of vaporware will continue in that status until we are told otherwise.
