Sunday afternoon’s game between the Los Angeles Angels and Seattle Mariners seemed like a typical weekend baseball tilt. A relaxing day at the ballpark got a lot more exciting when both teams cleared the benches in what turned into an epic brawl. Major League Baseball has now issued several suspensions in light of the melee.

Angels pitcher Andrew Wantz punked Jesse Winker. The Mariners believed it was on purpose. Tempers flared, resulting in a bench-clearing fight.

Wantz received a three-game suspension for throwing the pitch that acted as the catalyst for the dust-up. Winker got a seven-game ban for his role. Angels manager Phil Nevin will have to sit out ten games.

Anthony Rendon was already out of action after having wrist surgery. He got involved in the fight, taking a swing at Winker. That earned him a five-game suspension from the league.

Additional punishments were handed out to Angels assistant coaches Dom Chiti, Ray Montgomery, and Bill Haselman. Mariners outfielder Julio Rodriguez and an interpreter for the Angels also received punishments.

Most of the players involved have chosen to appeal. After that process, the suspensions will begin. There have been several fights involving fans throughout the season. This time, it was the players. It was a wild scene, and you can check out the video below.
