Todd Phillips directed and produced the psychological thriller Joker. Joker was a box office sensation in 2019, grossing over $1 billion. Fans will be thrilled to note that Todd Phillips is coming with a sequel to the hit. Lady Gaga is set to play Harley Quinn in Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker musical sequel.

A sequel to Joker is in the works, with Todd Phillips expected to return as director, and there have been reports that Lady Gaga will star with Joaquin Phoenix in the upcoming film. It now appears that those rumors were correct. In Joker: Folie à deux, the award-winning singer and House of Gucci star joined the DC universe.

On Monday, The Hollywood Reporter reported that Lady Gaga is in talks to star in the upcoming Joker sequel. Not only that, but the upcoming Joker flick will be a musical, according to the rumor. If Gaga does join the picture, THR reported that she will play Harley Quinn, a character who has long been tied to the Joker in the pages of DC Comics. Recent television and film interpretations of the character have separated Harley from the Joker and concentrated on her own journey.

Joker 2 has been talked about since the first film broke box office records, startling everyone by grossing more than $1 billion worldwide. Phillips made things official earlier this month by disclosing the film’s title on social media. Folie à deux is a medical disorder in which two or more people begin to share delusions, leading many to suspect Harley Quinn was involved. The musical viewpoint, on the other hand, is novel and unexpected.

Another Joker film may go a long way toward building an R-rated brand or label for DC films, which Phillips has wanted to do since he first worked with the character.

“When I pitched them Joker, it wasn’t a movie, it was, let’s do a whole label. They shut that down quickly and I get it. Who am I to walk in and start a label at a film studio? But they said, let’s do this one.”

“Here’s the real truth about a sequel. While Joaquin and I have talked about it, and while touring the world with Warner Bros executives — going to Toronto, and Venice, and other places — of course, we’re sitting at dinner and they’re saying, ‘So, have you thought about…?’ But, talking about contracts, there’s not a contract for us to even write a sequel, we’ve never approached Joaquin to be in a sequel. Will that happen? Again, I just think the article was anticipatory at best.”

Finally, it has been discovered that a sequel to the blockbuster is in the works. Are you excited forward to seeing it? Let us know in the comments. This sequel, ideally, will have a bigger impact on the industry than the initial. Stay tuned to Thirsty for more information.
