Johnny Depp and Amber Heard‘s legal turmoil is finally over, even though she plans to appeal. The case kept everyone on the edge of their seats the entire time. Some details about the trial have started to emerge; for instance, NBC’s Savannah Guthrie recently came under fire for not disclosing that her husband secretly worked for Johnny.

Click here for a big UPDATE: Johnny Depp might NOT make Amber Heard pay her settlement because “it was never about the money” for Johnny.

Radar Online reports NBC and Savannah Guthrie were chastised when Guthrie hastily revealed how her husband worked for Johnny Depp’s legal team just before an interview with Depp’s attorneys. The shocking admission and “quick disclosure” happened as Guthrie was getting ready to interview Camille Vasquez and Ben Chew on NBC’s Today show on Wednesday morning.

“A quick disclosure, my husband has done consulting work for the Depp legal team, but not in connection with this interview,” the 50-year-old NBC anchor said before introducing Depp’s powerhouse legal team. “So with that aside, let me ask you, did you speak to your client right after the verdict?” She then went right into the interview with Vasquez and Chew.

NBC and Guthrie’s obvious conflict of interest did not go unnoticed, as producers from other morning television show quickly chastised the network and the Today host for their “unforced error.”

“Just before Savannah Guthrie conducts her interview with Johnny Depp’s lawyers, she discloses that her husband was a consultant for the Depp legal team,” Justin Baragona, formerly of Mediaite, wrote.

Surprisingly, other rival producers praised Guthrie’s “quick disclosure,” arguing that it would have been more suspicious if she had not disclosed her husband’s consulting work with Depp’s lawyers at all. Last week, Guthrie also spoke with Amber Heard’s lawyer, Elaine Bredehoft. The Today host either forgot or chose not to disclose her husband’s close connection to Depp’s legal team during that interview, which Jezebel’s Caitlin Cruz picked up on.

“I know objectivity in journalism is a way to uphold the status quo, but I do think this is a cut-and-dry example of Interviews You Should Give to Your Colleagues. Today has been covering the couple’s ongoing legal battles in the United Kingdom, and Gutherie actually got their engagement exclusive back in 2014.”

“In fact, I would argue Guthrie’s husband’s consultancy relationship, which is likely financial, deserves an on-air disclosure to viewers of one of the nation’s largest morning news programs. There are so many anchors and reporters at Today; Guthrie did not have to be the anchor to take both of these interviews.”

In 2014, Guthrie married her spouse, Michael Feldman, a 53-year-old public relations and communications consultant. Feldman is also a former political advisor who served as former Vice President Al Gore’s traveling chief of staff during the former vice president’s unsuccessful presidential run in 2000.

Let’s see how Savannah defends herself, or if Johnny has to say anything. We’ll also have to wait and watch whether any major information regarding the trial leaks. To get the latest updates, keep an eye on Thirsty.
