Kourtney Kardashian and Travis Barker’s relationship continues to make news for one reason or another. They recently got married at an extravagant wedding in Italy. However, the two have been accused of “mocking” Catholicism with their grandiose Italian wedding ceremony.
While walking down the aisle on Sunday, the reality personality donned a white Dolce & Gabbana short dress with a dramatic veil embroidered with the image of the Virgin Mary, a homage to a tattoo her new husband had tattooed on the top of his head.
While Barker has made public statements about his Catholic beliefs, it is unknown whether Kardashian is a Catholic. However, over the years, the Poosh founder has posted numerous texts about faith, quotes, and Bible verses via her Instagram Stories.
One person wrote on Twitter to say, “Kinda weird that Kourtney [sic] wedding is like this catholic ‘aesthetic’ like the Virgin Mary on her dress and her wedding veil??”
A second person later added, “I just really feel like Travis & Kourtney [sic] wedding is mocking the catholic religion? They don’t symbolize religious people at all, just feels like mockery. I’m not catholic but just doesn’t sit right with me.”
Vice reported that Barker was raised Catholic. However, the couple also received criticism for allowing Dolce & Gabbana to benefit from their wedding by giving them “free publicity.”
A supporter expressed their happiness for the couple, but stated that “liturgical garments used during mass are not something fashionable.” Kardashian’s short gown was even deemed “offensive” by some. Not everyone is against the wedding.
