Freddie Prinze Jr. is a big wrestling fan and recently grabbed headlines for his idea of starting a wrestling promotion. The actor worked for WWE as a writer so has plenty of experience about the in and outs of the industry. Prinze Jr. recently revealed how far his idea has manifested into a reality.

Prinze Jr. recently appeared on “Stories with Brisco and Bradshaw,” where he gave details on the wrestling promotion that he is starting. The actor said that he has bought production equipment from the Fox boxing crew. He also stated that he is already doing real estate shopping.

“I’m already real estate shopping, I’m already looking to own a place where I can have a venue where it’s not too big, where it’s not too small. I bought a lighting kit from the Fox boxing crew. They were replacing their old one and it was like a $38,000 rig and I got it for six grand. I don’t know if I’m supposed to say that [or] if they’re allowed to sell it. But it’s in storage. I’ve already got a lot of things that I want for it.”

Of course, starting a promotion on this day is a massive work but with correct guidance, it is not impossible. Freddie Prinze Jr. mentioned that he received advice from none other than Cody Rhodes regarding the matter. Rhodes was major part of AEW’s growth behind the scenes, so whatever he told the actor must have been from experience.

“I have a friend who literally has run the CW for the last 20 years. And they have a really good business model in place. It’s how they maintain all those DC shows for so long. And I asked a lot of questions to a lot of people and I’ve been asking a lot of wrestlers as well and people who have built things you know, I spoke to Cody. And I’ve spoken to Cody multiple times. So it’s a lot to learn, but I feel like I’m going slow and steady and I’m learning it the right way.”

Freddie Prinze Jr. has planned to start his promotion within the next 18 months or so. With the wrestling space having AEW and WWE, the idea of new promotion sure sounds interesting. However, it will be equally hard for it to compete with established promotions. We’ll have to see if Prinze Jr.’s promotion lives up to the expectations once it starts.
