Serena Williams is regarded as one of the best women’s tennis players in the entire world. With that in mind, one would assume she’d be interested in coaching her own daughter but that doesn’t seem to be the case.

Williams appeared on a sneak peek of the upcoming episode of The Ellen DeGeneres Show. In the clip, she spoke about her 4-year-old daughter Alexis Olympia. Her kid is growing right in her footsteps and she might as well be the next star in training.

Alexis might be training in her mom’s shadow but she doesn’t receive guidance from her at all and there is a good reason for that. Serena shared the reasoning behind her decision on the show.

The 23-time Grand Slam champ admitted to Ellen that Olympia is “alright” at tennis, but she’s hired a private instructor to help perfect her technique. Williams confessed that she doesn’t “have the patience to teach tennis,” which is why she hired someone else.

“I don’t push her because I’m like, she’s 4,” Williams, 40, explained. “She’s alright… [But] I’ve seen 4-year-olds that might take her out.”

“I don’t really like to play with people who don’t know how to play tennis well. It drives me nuts. So, I was like, ‘I can’t. I don’t have the patience for this,’ ” the star said, “So I signed her up for a private teacher.”

Williams is a good mother regardless and there’s no denying that. The mother-daughter-duo has shared a lot of moments together on the court since Olympia’s birth. The tennis legend hasn’t played since the last and has been out due to an injury. While she prepares for her return she is spending plenty of time with her family while she can.
