The Fast & Furious series has gone on for more than two decades. Throughout the years, it has come to feature many great actors such as The Rock, Jason Statham, John Cena, Idris Elba and Charlize Theron. It seems another member of the Fast Family takes a step back from the franchise’s next ferocious instalment.
Fast X, the tenth and second-to-last film in the Fast & Furious film franchise, would have been director Justin Lin’s fifth film. The director, on the other hand, is taking a break from this latest instalment, as he announced via a tweet on the Fast Saga Twitter account.
With the support of Universal, I have made the difficult decision to step back as the director of Fast X, while remaining with the project as a producer. Over 10 years and five films, we have been able to shoot the best actors, the best stunts, and the best damn car chases. On a personal note, as the child of Asian immigrants, I am proud of helping to build the most diverse franchise in movie history. I will forever be grateful to the amazing cast, crew, and studio for their support, and for welcoming me into the Fast family.
Fast X only recently began production. Lin and the studio have yet to comment on the reason for his departure. However, the series’ star, Vin Diesel, appears to be gaining more control over the series as time passes. Dwayne Johnson left the show after a feud with Diesel, and he says there’s “no chance” he’ll return after what Diesel called “tough love.”
Then, last week, on Instagram, Diesel revealed to fans in a post that Mia Toretto, played by Jordana Brewster throughout the series, was not in the first draught of the script. While Lin and Johnson are out, Brie Larson, who plays Captain Marvel, has recently joined the cast. Fast X is currently scheduled to open in May 2023.
