Bobby Shmurda is a free man after leaving Epic Records earlier this year. Without a label telling him what to do, Shmurda can now drop new music whenever he wants. Bobby said he made $1 million on the first day without his label.

That kind of creative freedom opens a lot of doors. Bobby Shmurda could decide on a whim to drop a diss track, a new record, or anything he’s working on without all the red tape. That means he has room to dream big.

In a recent chat with DJ Akademiks, Bobby was asked who he would rather feature on new music. The choice seemed obvious to most outside observers. Ak wanted to know if Shmurda would rather feature Pop Smoke or Jay-Z. Bobby didn’t hesitate.

“Pop Smoke.”

Bobby Shmurda is more worried about what he thinks would make a better track than name recognition. Jay-Z is one of the most popular rappers of all time. That doesn’t mean he’d fit Bobby’s style.

The conversation sparked a discussion in the comments. Fans weighed whether the impact of working with Jay-Z would be better than choosing who would best fit a track. Bobby didn’t even consider it.

We will have to wait and see if Pop Smoke catches wind of the choice made by Bobby Shmurda. With no label to constrain him, they could collaborate at any time. Bobby wouldn’t hesitate to do so.
