Johnny Depp rose to great prominence as Captain Jack Sparrow in the Walt Disney swashbuckler film series Pirates of the Caribbean. Now it appears that we will never see him as Jack Sparrow again. Johnny recently revealed, during his ongoing trial, that he will never reprise his role as Jack Sparrow in The Pirates of the Caribbean.

During Amber Heard’s ongoing $100 million defamation trial, actor Johnny Depp accused her of ruining his career by writing an op-ed about their relationship. Depp admitted to his own lawyer that Disney had dropped him from Pirates of the Caribbean 6 just days after the piece was published. During cross-examination, he was asked about a Daily Mail article in which Depp was described as “out as Jack Sparrow.”

“I wasn’t aware of that, but it doesn’t surprise me. Two years had gone by of constant worldwide talk about me being this wife beater. So, I’m sure that Disney was trying to cut ties to be safe. The #MeToo movement was in full swing at that point.”

According to IGN, a new Pirates of the Caribbean film, starring Margot Robbie, has since begun production. It’s unclear whether Depp would have co-starred with her in the upcoming film, or if this version of Pirates of the Caribbean 6 was reimagined after Depp’s departure.

Depp’s ongoing lawsuit argues that Heard’s op-ed in the Washington Post, which alluded to Depp but did not name him, caused irreparable harm to his career. He claims that the piece, not earlier allegations from 2016, is to blame for his professional problems.

“I would be a real simpleton to not think that there was an effect on my career based on Ms. Heard’s words, whether they mentioned my name or not.”

“Once that happened, I lost then. No matter the outcome of this trial, I’ll carry that for the rest of my days… I’m suing her over defamation and the various falsities that she used to bring my life to an end.”

Depp did, however, confirm that Disney is still selling Jack Sparrow items. Obviously, the House of Mouse will keep cashing in.

“They didn’t remove my character from the rides. They didn’t stop selling dolls of Captain Jack Sparrow. They didn’t stop selling anything. They just didn’t want there to be something trailing behind me that they’d find.”

Despite Depp’s claims, he has stated that he will not return to the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. Cross-examiner Ben Rottenborn said: “The fact is, Mr. Depp, if Disney came to you with $300 million and a million alpacas, nothing on this earth would get you to go back and work with Disney on a Pirates of the Caribbean film? Correct?” Johnny Depp then replied, “That is true.”

Captain Jack Sparrow’s days appear to be numbered, and the series is likely to continue without him. To get the latest updates, keep an eye on Thirsty.
