A massive, bench-clearing brawl took place at Thursday night’s minor league baseball game between the Portland Sea Dogs and the Binghamton Rumble Ponies. Tyreque Reed, a promising prospect in the Boston Red Sox farm system, was plunked by a pitch in the third inning. The situation quickly escalated out of control.

Reed was trotting to first base when Rumble Ponies pitcher Marcel Renteria, a prospect of the New York Mets, said something to him. Whatever it was didn’t sit well with Tyreque Reed. Reed stormed the mound from the first base line.

Tyreque then decked Renteria. A runner who was on third base joined the fray. Soon, both dugouts cleared and a melee erupted.

Renteria eventually got to his feet and tackled another Sea Dogs player. The scuffle continued for a little while longer. In the end, Marcel Renteria appeared to have gotten the worst of it.

Renteria was pulled from the game. It is unknown how severe his injuries are. Reed was ejected from the contest.

In the end, there were no further problems. Portland got the victory by a score of 12-5. Minor League Baseball will be reviewing the tape. Stiff penalties may be coming soon for those involved.
