Gilbert Gottfried sadly passed away at the age of 67 earlier this week. The comedy legend was known for his unique voice and crass delivery. Gilbert was mourned by comedians and fans around the world.

Shortly after his death was announced, hackers attempted to capitalize on the expected influx of interest in Gilbert Gottfried’s social media accounts. Just hours after his family announced that he had passed, Gottfried’s Twitter account was apparently hacked. It was even briefly deleted entirely.

The Daily Mail reported that tweets for OnlyFans pages and porn sites littered Gilbert’s timeline. Eventually, Gilbert’s family regained control of the account. The incident was captured in the form of screenshots by fans.

The hackers also retweeted lewd posts from other Twitter users. The profile picture on the account was changed to match one of the retweeted posts. Gilbert’s bio was changed to give credit to the apparent mastermind behind the hack.

“hacked by @yeatarchive on ig”

One of the users who was retweeted denied any involvement with the hack. The user @Dimetimez had their OnlyFans page posted to the account. It appears to be the work of a bot.

If Gilbert Gottfried were alive, he would most likely be making jokes about the situation. Fortunately, his family was able to get the problem under control and now has access to the legacy account again. They can now move on to the much more important business of mourning and healing.
