Brittney Griner has been held in a Russian prison since February. Griner is accused of attempting to bring a hashish oil vape pen into the country. As international tensions flare over Vladimir Putin’s unprovoked invasion of Ukraine, a ton of attention has been placed on Griner’s case.

The Phoenix Mercury star pled not guilty to the charges yesterday. Griner’s legal team also requested that she be released on house arrest while awaiting trial. TMZ has reported that the judge has denied that request.

Brittney Griner’s detainment had been extended until May 19 to allow the prosecution to gather more evidence. Many believe the entire case is bogus. American elected officials fear that Griner may be used as a bargaining chip.

Griner’s legal team moved to allow Brittney to go home instead of being held in a Russian jail. Instead, she will be forced to share a cell with two other women with no prior criminal record. Brittney Griner has also been issued a tiny bed that is shorter than her 6’7″ frame.

Russian officials are investigating Brittney Griner for drug trafficking. If there was a vape cartridge, it was likely for personal use. Most don’t believe that there is a legitimate case for trafficking.

The world has expressed its support for Brittney Griner. Politicians in the United States have been working hard to cut a deal for her release. Time will tell how long her ordeal in Russian jail will last.
