As a stand-up comedian, Dave Chappelle does not require an introduction. His broad range of material and impeccable timing have made him a huge success. On 9th February, Dave looked to have gotten himself into some heated air over a disagreement about an affordable housing project. Now Dave Chappelle changed his stance by saying that he’s not an anti-affordable housing project.

Comedian Dave Chappelle said that his threat to cancel his plans to construct a comedy club near his hometown in Ohio wasn’t motivated by his opposition to a nearby development’s proposal for affordable housing.

In a statement, Chappelle, who came under fire this week after speaking out against the construction in Yellow Springs, said the idea was not the appropriate match for the municipality. Carla Sims, a spokesperson for Chappelle said something in favor of him.

“Dave Chappelle didn’t kill affordable housing. Concerned residents and a responding Village Council ‘killed’ a half-baked plan which never actually offered affordable housing.”

Last year, the comic stated that he purchased a disused fire station in Yellow Springs with plans to turn it into a comedy club, but he indicated he would back out if the proposal approved.

“I’m not playing games. I’m going to take everything off the table.”

The council sided with Chappelle and other locals who were opposed to the project, which included duplexes, townhomes, and fewer than two acres for future affordable housing. Instead, only single-family houses will be built as part of the project. As a result, the Spokesperson gave her final statement on this matter.

“Neither Dave nor his neighbors are against affordable housing, however, they are against the poorly vetted, cookie-cutter, sprawl-style development deal which has little regard for the community, culture, and infrastructure of the Village.”

Finally, Dave is not opposed to the affordable housing initiative, but he is opposed to inadequately reviewed projects. People must now wait to see if this project will proceed or not. For further updates stay tuned to Thirsty.
