President Joe Biden is getting serious about protecting the voting rights of Americans. Biden tweeted earlier today about the ongoing state level election law changes that he called “Jim Crow 2.0.” The Commander in Chief strongly urged Congress to pass the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act and the Freedom to Vote Act.

Biden has been strengthening his stance as he hopes to get the unlikely legislation to his desk. Several states with Republican-run legislatures have been passing laws at a torrent pace with an obvious intent to make it more difficult for Americans in certain parts of the country to vote. Biden has heard enough.

“Jim Crow 2.0 is about two insidious things: voter suppression and election subversion. It’s about making it harder to vote, who gets to count the vote, and whether your vote counts at all. We have to pass the Freedom to Vote Act and John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act.”

Both supporters and detractors of the President’s language got the phrase “Jim Crow 2.0” trending on Twitter. The American public largely supports easier access to the ballot box. Republicans in Congress have repeatedly stonewalled efforts to pass the bills. Many social media users shared their split opinions on the matter.

“The Two Senators Krysten Sinema & Joe Manchin that are Opposing the Will of the People to PASS the Two Pieces of Voting Rights Legislation they are Hand & Hand with all of these Voter Suppression Jim Crow 2.0 Mitch McConnell Changed the Filibuster Rules”

“You have some balls, drape yourself in MLK day while betraying his legacy by weaponizing the Jim Crow 2.0 filibuster & against civil voting rights, so take your phony comments & your picture with the late John Lewis and tear it down the middle, you have no place next to this man”

“#vote, have early voting, vote by mail, vote on Sundays. W rights come responsibility. Voters will and should make an effort. Requiring ID, having voting hours, eliminating electioneering is not Jim Crow 2.0.”

We will have to see how things turn out in this situation. Obviously, there is a lot at stake and this is a very divisive topic. Keep checking back with Thirsty as we continue monitoring this situation and everything else society is talking about.
