Zendaya, Willow Smith, and Kiernan Shipka are being dragged by fans after a video of the trio covering “Changes” by David Bowie was released on social media. The celebrity pals were hoping to honor the late singer on his birthday. The attempt was not well-received.

W Magazine published the video. The clip was directed by Lynn Hirschberg. The caption hyped the cover as a “Heartfelt rendition of the legendary rocker’s hit song.” The only thing fans were feeling was heartache. The comments section quickly became a war zone.

“Y’all didn’t even give them a key to sing in huh?”

“That was kind of uncomfortable to hear”

“I thought this was gonna be cute but instead it felt blasphemous”

“Bowie is lucky that he is dead and can’t see this”

Zendaya, Willow, and Kiernan meant well. It isn’t surprising that Bowie’s fanbase reacted poorly to a younger generation attempting to cover his song. Some music is just sacred.

David Bowie passed away in 2016 after a long battle with cancer. The music Bowie created continues to inspire a new generation of fans. A lot of folks on Instagram cant seem to come to grips with it.
