Fat Joe and Remy Ma spend a lot of time doing rounds in courtrooms over their “All The Way Up” lawsuit. However, it seems the pair can finally stop splurging money on their lawyers as their case finally got a verdict.

According to Billboard, the Bronx hitmakers won their federal lawsuit on Wed. Jan 5. Judge presiding over the case cleared them of any wrongdoing regarding the copyright of their 2016 hit single “All The Way Up.”

U.S District Judge Naomi Reice Buchwald ruled that the two had already paid the rapper suing them years prior for his contributions to the song. The rapper, Eric Elliott said at the time that he met with Fat Joe at Miami area IHOP and sold his rights to the song for $5000.

Elliott claimed, he felt “intimidated” by Joe’s street reputation and Joe promised him he would receive more compensation at a later date. He would later file suit in 2019, naming Joe, Remy, French Montana and producer Infrared in his lawsuit over copyright dispute. Judge Buchwald wrote in her ruling,

“Elliott’s retrospective frustration at the amount of money notwithstanding, there is no dispute that Elliott signed the contract, assigning his rights to the song, while simultaneously receiving the $5,000 check from Fat Joe in exchange,”

The Judge also rejected Elliott’s claim of being pressured by Joe to sign over the rights to his song. Buchwald explicitly stated the written deal between the two was the only thing that mattered in the eyes of the court. The Judge wrote,

“Try as he might, Elliott cannot avoid the clear and plain language of the contract that ‘no additional compensation … will be due to Elliott, Any alleged statements regarding future or additional compensation are explicitly contradictory to these specific and unambiguous provisions of the contract.”

The song peaked at No. 27 on the Billboard Hot 100 char. It also became a Top 10 hit for Joe and Remy in R&B/Hip-Hop chart. You can check out the 2016 hit single below.
