Olympic gold medalist Suni Lee also has the distinction of being the first Hmong-American Olympian. Unfortunately, some members of the Hmong community have decided to send hate to the young Olympian instead of celebrating her accomplishments.

Lee has been dating USC football player, Jaylin Smith. Lee and Smith went public their relationship last month via Instagram, and the Hmong community has taken an issue with Lee being in an interracial relationship.

The post announcing her new relationship received so many toxic comments, that the 18-year-old had to disable comments on it. The Olympian took to TikTok two days ago to shed some light on the situation.

In the aforementioned TikTok video, a user can be seen praising Lee for being brave enough to date whom she wants, despite the negativity coming from the Hmong community.

I know that Sunisa will be judged by certain eyes in the Hmong Community because her man is black.

Lee confirmed what this user said, responding to the video saying that it made her happy to hear positive words, after all the hate she received. Lee has also spoken out against racism earlier, when she revealed that she had to deal with anti-Asian hate.

It is definitely a heartbreaking reality that a young and accomplished individual like Lee has to face discrimination because of whom she chooses to love. Check out her Instagram post below.
