Avengers: Endgame was the culmination of an 11-year long story spanning through multiple films. At the heart of it was Robert Downey Jr. portraying Tony Stark/Iron Man. The film took place after the events of Avengers: Infinity War, which featured Thanos being successful in wiping out half of life in the universe with the snap.

In the end, Tony Stark gave his life in order to defeat Thanos, making for a very emotional moment. Robert Downey Jr. truly is the only one who could have portrayed Iron Man and after his character’s demise, Tom Holland had very big shoes to fill.

Tom Holland previously stated that Spider-Man: No Way Home will be the end of the Homecoming trilogy. He then made it clear that a fourth film featuring the webhead isn’t impossible. Holland further added that Marvel would build something different with a possible fourth film.

While speaking to Josh Wilding, Tom Holland opened up about replacing Robert Downey Jr. in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Holland is now becoming the face of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

“I mean, I wouldn’t necessarily say that I’m the face of the universe,” Holland explained. “I know that fans are really supportive and have responded massively to this franchise. I’m honored that Joe thinks that. But, the beautiful thing about the MCU is, whoever is the leader, if there ever is a leader again, you’re never alone.

You have so many people that you can rely on and lean on, and people that I’ve now worked with for years and years. So, I don’t necessarily feel those pressures, but should I feel those pressures, then yes, I’ll call Downey and ask, yeah. I called him the other day for a piece of advice, and he was very kind.”

Holland also previously stated he wants to be the next Iron Man. It remains to be seen whether Tom Holland will be successful as the face of the Marvel Cinematic Universe following Robert Downey Jr’s exit.
