Alberto Del Rio No Longer Facing Assault & Kidnapping Charges

Former WWE Champion Alberto Del Rio was arrested in May 2020 and was set to go to trial on December 13, 2021. However, the arrest has now been dropped and he is free and clear going forward from all criminal liabilities in regard to this case.

Alberto was facing a count of aggravated kidnapping and four counts of sexual assault after being arrested for allegedly assaulting his then-girlfriend. The accuser claimed that Alberto slapped her several times “across the head” and that after forcing her to “wear a dress and dance for him.” He threatened to “take her son and drop him off in the middle of the road somewhere” after she refused his demands.

The trial had been postponed multiple times, originally being scheduled for January 2021, then pushed back to May 3, then to August 2, then to October 25, then to December 13. With the trial being set to take place soon it won’t happen anymore as there was a missing witness in the recent hearing, reported by PWInsider. The decision to drop the charges was made and Del Rio’s bond was returned.

Michael Morales Torres, the PR agent for Alberto Del Rio issued the following statement regarding the aggravated kidnapping/sexual assault trial that was scheduled to begin this Monday:

“San Antonio, Texas: We want to formally announce that from today, December 10th, 2021, the Honorable Judicial System of the state of Texas has officially dismissed Alberto Rodriguez, known in the wrestling industry as Alberto Del Rio or Alberto El Patron, of all the charges presented against him. Alberto Rodriguez has been dismissed from all the charges presented against him. We want to thank the Texas Judicial System, the United States legal system, The Rodriguez Family, Alberto’s legal team, his friends, and Lucha Libre Online for always supporting him during this process. It was a long process, but at the end, the truth came to light. Alberto’s focus will be to get to back the squared circle he felt in love back when he was a child. Alberto will be restarting his career inside the pro wrestling and combat sports industry. Thank you for attention.”
