Jussie Smollett‘s trial is close to reaching its conclusion. The trial involving Smollett and the accused brothers Abimbola and Olabinjo Osundairo finally saw some clarity after Smollett was declared guilty for fabricating the attack against himself, as per Associated Press. He reportedly fabricated the attack in order to gain sympathy from popular media.

The Empire actor was at the center of the Jan. 29, 2019 attack. The Chicago attack was reported by Smollett. According to his account, it involved the two men yelling anti-gay & racist slurs against the actor. They then tied a rope around his neck and even poured chemical on him.

The Osundairo brothers were arrested following Smollett’s account. However, authorities released them following new evidence, and eventually turned their suspicion on Smollett for staging the attack.

Smollett was accused of having paid the backstage actors $3,500 each for staging the attack. Even though the initial charges against Smollett were dropping, a special grand jury indictment against Smollett charged him with six counts in total, out of which he was found guilty on five.

Two of the charges on which Smollett is found guilty on were about filing a false report of a hate crime. Three of which were based on him falsely reporting being victim of a battery assault situation. These charges carry three years behind bars each, so Smollett might have a lot of prison time to do.
