The jaw-dropping Starz drama series, BMF just got done with its first season and now Demetrius “Lil Meech” Flenory Jr. spoke with HipHopDX about his journey to the big screen, as he now plays the younger version of his real life dad.

Lil Meech shared how he had no prior acting experience hence had to take acting classes for two years. He spent a great deal of time preparing for the role by consistently speaking with his dad, who is currently incarcerated. He also received weekly mentorship from 50 Cent aka Curtis Jackson.

The actor told HipHopDx that Curtis is like a father figure in his life. “50 is like my big brother, my mentor, we talk almost every other day,” Lil Meech reveals. “We talk for hours. He literally gets me all the game I need in this film business because he’s a genius. Everything he touches turns to gold. I’m just happy and blessed to even be by his side as one of his associates.”

Though 50 Cent pushed for Lil Meech to portray his father, since they look so much alike, the BMF creator Huggins was skeptical. “Lil Meech doesn’t sound like a Detroiter,” Huggins joked. “He sounds like he’s from Miami because that’s where he’s from.” Luckily, the younger Flenory has proven that he was up for the challenge and could take on the role.

Meech said that he wants people to see his range, versatility, and what he can do, not just playing his dad or someone he knows but also playing someone he is not. Meech is here to make a name for himself and we cannot wait to witness it.
