Matt Ryan and his Atlanta Falcons were decimated by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday, December 5. The 30-17 loss wasn’t just forgettable for the numbers on the scoreboard. For Falcons QB Matt Ryan, it was a lot worse than that.

Ryan took five sacks and hit an additional eleven times. It was an impressive beating, to be sure. As usual, NFL fans took to Twitter to pile on. Some made fun of his stats. Others lamented the Falcon’s lack of pass protection.

“Matt Ryan had no TD passes and scored 12.1 fantasy points today. He is the QB11 on the week so far.”

“If I was Matt Ryan I would simply stop getting sacked by unblocked 340-pound defensive linemen who run 4.7 40s.”

“Matt Ryan has to lead the league in “sacks that take you out of FG range”

Ryan ultimately finished the game 30/41 for 297 yards. He didn’t record a touchdown or an interception, despite the mauling he endured. His counterpart, Tom Brady, went 38-51 for 368 yards and four touchdowns with one pick.

Matty Ice and the Falcons dropped to 5-7. They’ll take on the Carolina Panthers at 1PM on December 12. The Panthers recently welcomed back Cam Newton, who was ineffective against the Miami Dolphins, throwing two interceptions.
