Lionel Messi & Cristiano Ronaldo are known as two of the most successful football players of all time. While fans have persistently imposed the title of the GOAT on these two obviously exceptional players, the players might not necessarily agree with it.

Messi has been considered the GOAT since 2007. While accepting his 7th Ballon d’Or for his performance this season, Messi contemplated on the idea of being the best football player ever. However, he didn’t necessarily agree with the idea, adding that it was the striving to be better that kept him going.

Am I the best in history? I’ve never said it, thought it, or even tried to get used to this idea. For me, just being able to be considered or cited as one of the best players in the world is more than enough.

Messi’s speech serves as testament to the fact that he has a lot of gratitude for his fans. The player has one of the greatest fan-following of all time. The forward was responsible for securing huge numbers for FC Barcelona and helped Argentina win the Copa America.

The forward was also in every single match that Argentina played and won in the Copa America. Messi is rivaled by Cristiano Ronaldo, who is the top scorer for Manchester United.

Ronaldo won his Ballon d’Or in 2019, when he was 32. While both are always at the forefront of the GOAT football player discussion, it is yet to be seen who might emerge as the better player. Only time can tell.
