An officer from the California Highway Patrol was recently dispatched to check on a late-night traffic slowdown. Dispatched to Sherman Oaks at around 2 in the morning on Wednesday, the officer couldn’t believe what he found. Upon arriving, the officer discovered that there was a go-kart driving down the freeway in the slow lane.

CHP West Valley commented on the dangerous stunt on their Facebook page. They also shared video of the incident, which showed two cars clearly escorting the go-kart. While it is funny to watch the video, the danger of the situation was very real.

“Where do we begin with how incredibly dangerous, stupid and illegal this was… by a group of young self-described ‘YouTubers’ looking for fresh content.

CHP Sgt. Geraty was on patrol along the 101 Fwy in Sherman Oaks around 2am when he noticed traffic suddenly slow down. He then saw the little kart driving in the slow lane and exiting at Woodman Ave. surrounded to the front and back by two cars that were clearly escorting the kart. Sgt. Geraty pulled everyone over on Woodman Ave.

The young individuals admitted to doing the stunt for video content. One driver was cited for being a minor and driving outside of his license provisions while the kart racer was cited for unlawful operation/impeding traffic.

Absolutely zero social media content is worth putting your life or others in danger.”

Fortunately, there were no accidents, and everybody was safe. It goes without saying that driving a vehicle built for very low speeds on an open California freeway is a very dangerous move. Hopefully no copycats try to recreate the boneheaded stunt.
