Juicy J recently admitted that Three 6 Mafia broke up because of excessive drug use. The rapper appeared on “The Bridge: 50 Years of Hip Hop” with Nas and Miss Info recently, where he recounted his recollection of the story. Juicy believes that the group’s drug use was way out of control.

Juicy J said that the group used the “wildest drugs.” He said when they were sober, they were able to function as a unit. Once cocaine got involved, they were done.

“From heroin to meth to cocaine, all kinds of pills. A lot of drugs were consumed during the times we were together. When everybody was sober and sh*t, everybody’s on the same page, but when cocaine’s involved, things change.

But I’m not pointing a figure at nobody. [I] can’t think of nothing else [that could’ve caused the break up]… People wasn’t showing up in the studio… business was crazy, everything’s folding… It was the drugs.”

Three 6 Mafia debuted in 1993 when DJ Paul and Juicy J began working together. The group grew to mythical proportions over time. They released countless material as the group found its groove.

Unfortunately, unchecked drug abuse can cause all kinds of problems. For Three 6 Mafia, it spelled their eventual end. DJ Paul and Juicy J have performed sporadic reunions, with the most recent tour being cancelled last April by the COVID-19 pandemic.
