Shaun White is a three-time Olympic gold medalist in snowboarding. The extreme sports pioneer also took on skateboarding. He will soon compete in his 5th Olympic Winter Games, looking to bring home even more hardware.

There’s one individual who doesn’t want Shaun to succeed. Despite his legions of fans, there’s only one force that can hold White back. It’s his dog, Steve.

Steve is regularly featured on White’s Instagram posts. The bulldog recently stopped his master from getting in a practice session. As Shaun tried to skate, Steve kept grabbing his board, refusing to let it go.

According to Shaun White, the dog’s full name is “Effing Steve,” but he only gets called that when he’s being troublesome. White says the name came from a cartoon he liked. The character behaved like the dog, and he became Steve.

“It comes from this cartoon that I love. It’s like this adult cartoon where there’s these two guys that work at the school and the one guys named Steve. He’s always blowing it and they’re like F and Steve sit in the car I’m like why don’t we just call him Steve?”

Despite Steve’s best efforts, Shaun White has become one of the premier snowboarders of all time. He holds the X-Games and Olympic records for gold medals won by a snowboarder. He’s also got a well-meaning buddy getting in his way from time to time.
