Joey Bada$$ made his debut into hip-hop with the mixtape 1999 in 2012. Since then, he has matured into more than just a rapper. He’s now a businessman and an actor with even more plans to elevate.

Joey’s success did not happen overnight, and he is making sure his fans understand that. Joey attended the REVOLT Summit in Atlanta, Georgia last week. There, he preached wisdom about success when it comes to cultivating our inner-circle (word to JAY-Z).

Joey believes in keeping the circle tight (word to JAY-Z). However, he doesn’t think people have to always buddy up with those who are smarter. Joey shared some tips about finding honest and loyal buddies.

“Your circle is very important. However, I don’t think that you should be fully focused on only hanging out with people smarter than you,” Joey Bada$$ said. “Because we all have a duty here, we all have a responsibility. I forgot who it was that I was watching, but they had an interesting concept on this, and it was basically like the 33 percent rule.”

He continued, “33 percent of the time, you should be hanging out with people who are smarter than you. The other 33 percent, you should be hanging out with people who are on your level. And the last 33 percent, you should be hanging out with people you’re smarter than.”

This way, we are evenly distributing our talents. We are learning and educating at the same time. Not only are we learning and educating, but for the group in the middle, we get to push each other, we get to challenge each other.

Joey’s outlook on life has gotten him far in life, especially when it comes to his future. The Brooklyn rap star told HipHopDX at Rolling Loud New York last month that he used to watch old JAY-Z and Kanye West interviews to help him deal with the uncertainty of the future.

Quite motivating, don’t you think? Sound off in the comments!

Gunjan Nath

In search of simplicity and inner peace, Gunjan is basically a guy soldiering through his paranoia. You could say Art, Witty/Dark Humor, Movies, Anime, Post-rock/Black Metal/Hip-Hop/Shoegaze Music, Football, Creative Writing, Photography, Videography are his forte. A Jack of All Trades and a Master of Many. Dangerously bipolar. He can go on months without being productive and also work 12 hours straight. He's basically a lazy, procrastinating person. But if art and ideas hit him like sudden motivational sparks, he can invest sleepless nights on that. Drive to creating art: Sometimes guilt and inferiority complex. Sometimes sudden spikes of motivation seeing artists like yuumei, bosslogic, Kim Jung gi amongst others. Gunjan loves doing scribble art the most. It defines him. He says - 'It's like I'm lost and hoping to find a way out at the end. Expressing my chaotic, spontaneous mind, looking for inner peace in those infinite entanglements I create.' He loves to let the ink flow, losing control, losing myself completely in the act.' Once he was asked - 'why this constant urge of being good at everything? You are great at the things you do best. You don't have to be a master of every art. ' To that he replied - 'because that's how I work. I just don't like this idea of stopping at what I have already achieved. Limitations disgust me. I believe in becoming a jack of all trades and a master of many, plus this innate ability of being good at what I try doing and this upper hand of being a fast learner. I want to master all kinds of musical instruments, sports, forms of art.' He invests in ideas, brainstorming, creativity, flexibility, originality. Professionally however, he is that regular ‘IT guy’. He previously worked on roles such as Full Stack Engineer, Frontend Developer, UX/UI Designer, Digital Artist and Data Analyst. He is willing to use his flexibility and adaptability, coupled with the innate ability of being an extremely fast learner to use his words and wisdom here at Thirsty For News. Fun fact: He is obsessed with huskies, number "7", Germany, Japan, football, Naruto, Breaking Bad, cinema (in a broader perspective) Tldr: In search of simplicity and inner peace.
