The popular X-Men: The Animated Series cartoon that aired on Fox in the 1990s is making a comeback. The revival will be a Disney+ streaming exclusive. Producers hope to premiere the new series sometime in 2023.

The Wrap revealed that the new show is currently being called “X-Men 97.” The story will pick off directly after the original series. Several cast members will return to the new version of the show including Cal Dodd, Lenore Zann, George Buza, Adrian Hough, Christopher Britton, Catherine Disher, Chris Potter, Alison Sealy-Smith, Alyson Court.

The writers of the classic series are also returning. Eric and Julia Lewald will be consulting for the show. Director Larry Houston will also be back as a consultant. It seems the producers want to stay true to the spirit of the original run.

The OG series ran for five years on the Fox Kids Network. That series is available now for streaming in Disney+ for fans who want to catch up. The series brought the mutant comic book heroes to the mainstream which led to the production of several movies using the property.
