Longtime actor Dean Stockwell has passed away at the age of 85.

A rep for the family confirmed to Deadline that Stockwell passed away in the early morning hours of Sunday, November 7th. He passed peacefully at home of natural causes.

The Oscar and Emmy-nominated actor had a career on stage, in film and TV, that lasted for more than 70 years. Stockwell is most known for his signature performance as Admiral Al Calavicci on the hit sci-fi TV series Quantum Leap. Starring opposite Scott Bakula, Stockwell received four Emmy nominations and a Golden Globe award for his role on the show.

Stockwell also appeared in Battlestar Galactica, JAG, The Tony Danza Show, NCIS: New Orleans, The Twilight Zone, Blue Velvet, Married to The Mob, and The Rainmaker, among others.

Stockwell retired from acting in 2015 and pursued a career change, making art and exhibiting pieces around the United States under his full name, Robert Dean Stockwell.

Those close to Stockwell describe him as a rebel who loved to act, laugh, play golf, and smoke cigars.

Stockwell is survived by his wife, Joy Stockwell, and their two children, Austin Stockwell and Sophie Stockwell. Our thoughts go out to Stockwell’s family, friends, and fans during this sad time. RIP.
