Netflix has been receiving a ton of backlash for platforming Dave Chappelle’s latest comedy special. Chappelle’s routine has upset members of the LGBTQ+ community, and has been described as transphobic.

Despite criticism, the streaming platform has stood by its decision to keep Chappelle’s special up. As a result, last week, trans employees working at Netflix decided to stage a walkout as an act of protest. The day of the walkout has finally arrived.

It seems that the walkout has been largely successful, with a large number of employees joining. Notably, “Most,” which is the Netflix account that pertains to their LGBTQ+ projects, shared a tweet in support of the walkout. Netflix issued a statement addressing the walkout.

We value our trans colleagues and allies, and understand the deep hurt that’s been caused. We respect the decision of any employee who chooses to walk out, and recognize we have much more work to do both within Netflix and in our content.

However, this statement seems to be mere lip service, since Netflix have made it clear that they will be sticking by their decision to not take down Chappelle’s special. This is certainly a disappointing outcome. Check out Most’s tweet below.
