Nicki Minaj recently lost a big-money lawsuit because she didn’t show up. Nicki says the failure to appear was an innocent mistake. She’s also calling out the attorney of the person who accused Minaj and beau Kenneth Petty of assault.

According to court documents, Minaj is making an argument that she did not willfully miss her date in court. After meeting with attorney Judd Burstein via Zoom on September 22, Nicki believed they had an agreement for him to represent her in the case.

Minaj stated that her manager misunderstood the agreement of legal representation between herself and Burstein. The court documents, obtained by Complex, spell out Minaj’s take on the situation.

“My failure to respond to the complaint was the product of an innocent mistake, and I ask the court to excuse the delay so that I can defend what I believe to be an entirely frivolous case which plaintiff’s counsel has brought against me in an effort to use my name to generate publicity for himself.”

Minaj’s attorney also hinted that they believe the plaintiff was looking for a “deep pocket” and moved to dismiss the complaint on multiple grounds. Nicki says Petty was never properly served with a copy of the summons.

Nicki Minaj and Kenneth Petty were married on October 21, 2019 after less than a year of courtship. Petty was convicted of first-degree attempted rape after a 1995 incident in California. In the midst of her legal woes, Nicki continues to post regularly to her Instagram.
