Turner & Hooch is the definitive buddy-cop movie with a canine staring as the second to the lead. It’s a movie that many millennials are nostalgic about, and the new Turner & Hooch Disney+ carries the tradition.

The series’ September 1st episode shows Scott (Josh Peck), Brooke (Becca Tobin) and Hooch going out to the local fair together. They quite expectedly run into Scott’s sister Laura (Lyndsy Fonseca), who has busied herself with a game of ring-tossing.

Laura is playing the game right beside Mayor David Sutton, who was the partner to nobody other than Det. Scott Turner Sr. Turner was played by Tom Hanks himself, so the call-back to it is quite special. The call-back to Hanks’ role doesn’t end there. In the conversation between the three, Brooke asks the mayor about how this job has served him.

Seems like forever! 10 years. Before that, I was a cop. My old partner was the father of these two rascals. (Ambien)

In very reminiscent Turner and Hooch fashion, Laura says “Well, three rascals,” so as to reiterate Hooch’s position in the mix. The new episode airs on September 1st, and will provide more world-building on the series.
