The Rock is not in the new Fast 9 film, leaving many fans to see a missed opportunity for John Cena and Dwayne Johnson to finally share the silver screen. The door is not closed for Johnson’s return to the franchise as they have two more films to complete the trilogy of films that will wrap up the saga.

Director Justin Lin confirmed to CinemaBlend that Hobbs and Shaw could both show up in the next two Fast films. Nothing is definite because he was a bit coy in his response, but Lin certainly gave a lot of hope to the idea that Dwayne Johnson will return to the Fast franchise of films.

“I think that’s always been our approach… So many of the conversations I have is about characters that are not even in there, but are still, obviously, they are living and breathing in this universe. On this one, when I came back, I was thinking a lot about Hobbs and Shaw, and all of the other characters. I never think of them as being gone, for sure.”

The Fast Saga means a lot to their fans and The Rock being left out of the next two films would likely upset a lot of them. He is also a very busy man with tons of commitments on his plate.

There was a rumor that some heat was on The Rock from the remaining Fast cast because Hobbs & Shaw delayed another larger film. The Rock did not return for Fast 9, but you can never say never as the Fast franchise looks to capitalize on their global popularity. Even Jason Statham wouldn’t mind coming back for the next two installments.
