Steven Spielberg’s classic 1985 film The Goonies remains a fan-favorite for many. It was announced last year that a remake series of the classic film will be produced by Fox and fans were very excited at the announcement.

However, we have some bad news to report as it seems the remake series has been canned entirely and will no longer be moving forward on Fox. According to a report by The Wrap, the network had to cancel the series so that they could have space for two new drams, Monarch and The Cleaning.

The now-cancelled remake would have been about three young filmmakers trying to produce a shot-for-shot remake of the original film. The TV drama from executive producers The Jackal Group, Amblin, The Donner Company was written by Sarah Watson and was set to be directed by Greg Mottola.

Fans of the classic film will no doubt be disappointed at this news but we can also understand Fox’s point of view. Two new dramas have more potential than a meta-commentary on a classic film. We hope the creators will be able to eventually have it produced by another network. We will keep you updated on this ongoing story.
