Elizabeth Olsen is now a household name with her portrayal of Wanda Maximoff / Scarlet Witch in the MCU. The youngest Olsen sibling recently revealed that she contemplated changing her name as she did not want to be known as Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen’s younger sister in Hollywood.

The WandaVision star explained that back in 1999, she considered dropping her famous last name. Her sisters were already very famous at the time, having finished Full House and moved on to direct-to-video hits like Passport to Paris and Switching Goals.

Olsen told Glamour UK in their April 2021 digital cover story that she wanted to earn her fame and not have it handed to her.

“During that time, I thought ‘I don’t want to be associated with [Mary-Kate and Ashley]’, for some reason, I guess I understood what nepotism was like inherently as a 10-year-old. I don’t know if I knew the word, but there is some sort of association of not earning something that I think bothered me at a very young age.”

The actress had planned on using her middle name Chase instead of her famous last name. She also revealed that the name change idea “had to do with my own insecurities,” which she gradually overcame.

In spite of it all, Elizabeth Olsen has surely earned her acclaim with her brilliant on-screen performances. The Marvel star is presently filming Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and we can’t wait to see her on-screen again.
