Cult classic indie comedy Napoleon Dynamite’s primary cast is returning for an animated pilot. And it will be released using blockchain technology.
Characters in Cyko KO, which is based on Rob Feldman’s Ringo Award-nominated comic book of the same name, will be voiced by Jon Heder, Tina Majorino, Efren Ramirez, and Jon Gries. Heder, who portrayed the title role of a geeky and lovable high school student in the 2004 comedy success Napoleon Dynamite, has been chosen for the main role of Cyko KO.
The character is described as a “fourth-wall breakin’, pinball-addicted, cereal eatin’, motorcycle-ridin’ hero.” In “this Saturday morning cartoon-inspired, all-ages title,” the series will follow him as he defends the colonies of SuperEarth against enormous monsters and eccentric characters with the help of his sidekick Peachy Keen and their pet Meemop.
A 12-minute pilot will debut exclusively on blockchain technology firm Replay’s Rewarded.TV web3 streaming service, with the film being funded, produced and released using revenue from an NFT collection from Theta Labs’ ThetaDrop. Perks offered by Cyko KO’s NFTs include the opportunity to interact with the cast of the show or make a cameo appearance in the pilot.
“The dream has always been to bring Cyko KO to the world of animation, and to do so through bleeding edge technology. Between this incredible cast reunion and our partners at Theta, Replay, and Verified Labs, we are going to create something incredibly special for the fans who have supported Cyko and his friends for the past seven years.”
The drop date for the Cyko KO Star Cards NFT is 12 pm PT on September 30th. This is just one of the many ways that people are exploring blockchain technology, something that is the future of technology. Some might say that “God hates NFTs” and other such devices, but the truth is that the medium can be used in many incredibly useful, and entertaining, ways.
