KK, a singer who sang for more than 300 films, passed away on Tuesday of cardiac arrest in India’s state of Kolkata. KK, whose real name was Krishnakumar Kunnath, died shortly after performing a concert. He was 53 at the time of his passing.

According to Deadline, the singer had complained of extreme cold and wanted to return to his hotel following the concert performance in Kolkata. He was later taken to the Calcutta Medical Research Institute, where the doctors pronounced him dead upon arrival.

KK was the recipient of many regional awards, including the Best Male Playback Singer which he won at India’s 2009 Screen Awards. He was also nominated five times at the International Indian Film Academy. He rose to fame in the mid nineties.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi shared his condolence message for the late singer on Twitter. Modi said KK’s songs “reflected a wide range of emotions as struck a chord with people of all age groups.” KK is survived by his wife and their two children. RIP.
