Vin Diesel’s public plea to Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson to return to the Fast & Furious franchise did not land the way he expected. Dwayne Johnson had something to say about Vin’s plea, and it wasn’t the greatest take.

In a recent interview with CNN, The Rock stated he has no interest in reprising his role as Luke Hobbs, even after Vin Diesel’s plea in November. In case you need a refresher, Diesel wrote on Instagram:

“My little brother Dwayne… the time has come. The world awaits the finale of Fast 10. As you know, my children refer to you as Uncle Dwayne in my house. There is not a holiday that goes by that they and you don’t send well wishes… but the time has come. Legacy awaits.”

“I told you years ago that I was going to fulfill my promise to Pablo[Paul Walker]. I swore that we would reach and manifest the best Fast in the finale that is 10!” he added. “I say this out of love… but you must show up, do not leave the franchise idle you have a very important role to play. Hobbs can’t be played by no other. I hope that you rise to the occasion and fulfill your destiny.”

Although, Vin’s post was met with a lot excitement and speculations from fans, Dwayne said he was “very surprised” to see it Vin shared it in the first place. Dwayne explained, when Vin and he connected this past June, he explicitly told Vin, he would not be returning to the franchise.

Johnson added that he also informed Universal Pictures about his decision and “all of whom were very supportive as they understand the problem.” Although, Vin seemingly had good intentions, Dwayne called his post an “example of his manipulation” as he explained, “I didn’t like that he brought up his children in the post, as well as Paul Walker’s death. Leave them out of it.”

Dwayne said after his initial conversation with Vin in June, he thought they had a “clear understanding” and he hoped to leave the franchise with “gratitude and grace.” However, he feels the recent public dialogue on Vin’s part has “muddied the waters.”

The Red Notice star previously hinted back in 2016, that there maybe some beef between him and Diesel. In a since deleted post he wrote, “My female co-stars are always amazing and I love ‘em. My male co-workers however are a different story.” In 2021, he shared with Vanity Fair that he regrets making his frustrations known publicly but his sentiments remain the same.

It seems like The Rock won’t return to the Fast Family after all.
