Alec Baldwin made news after accidentally shooting cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the set of “Rust.” Alec has been dealing with a slew of challenges since then, including being named as a defendant in a wrongful death lawsuit filed by the Hutchins family. Alec recently said that those suing him for the Rust shooting are doing it because he is wealthy.

Baldwin told film festival attendees in Colorado that he feels he is being sued for a fatal gunshot on the set of the Rust movie because of his wealth. Mr. Baldwin’s remarks, which were caught on camera by CNN at a moderated discussion at the Boulder International Film Festival, also implied that those responsible for the on-set tragedy last year had been spared judicial action.

“What you have is a certain group of litigants on whatever side, who their attitude is, well, the people who likely seem negligent have enough money, and the people who have money are not negligent, but we’re not going to let that stop us from doing what we need to do in terms of litigation.”

“So we have people who are suing people they think are deep pockets litigants.”

“Why sue people if you’re not going to get money? That’s what you’re doing.”

The family of killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, as well as script supervisor Mamie Mitchell, who made the initial call to 911 after the shooting, are suing Mr. Baldwin. In his remarks, Mr. Baldwin did not identify which litigation he was referring to. Mr. Baldwin emphasized during the panel that he was not to blame for the incident.

“When someone whose job it is to ensure the safety of the weapon hands someone else whose job was to be the secondary layer of protection for safety and they hand it over to and you declare that that weapon is safe — that’s how I’ve lived my whole life.”

“I’ve relied on the safety experts there to declare the gun is safe and hand me the gun. Never had a problem.”

In October 2021, Hutchins was killed when a revolver that Mr Baldwin was practising with during filming in New Mexico shot a live round at her and movie director Joel Souza, who survived. To get the latest updates, keep an eye on Thirsty.
