Nick Cannon is facing a new chapter in his journey toward self-improvement, revealing that he’s been clinically diagnosed with Narcissistic Personality Disorder (NPD). The father of 12 made the announcement during the November 8 episode of his Counsel Culture podcast, where he discussed the condition’s impact on his life and the steps he’s taking to heal.
In an interview while serving meals at the Los Angeles Mission Thanksgiving charity event, Cannon explained how he long suspected something was off. “I still don’t understand it all the way, but I kind of always wanted to get tested for it,” he shared with People. “I’ve been diagnosed with ADHD. Even as a kid, it was dyslexia, but just knowing that I’m a neurodivergent individual, I kind of always knew.”
Narcissistic Personality Disorder is characterized by a high sense of self-importance, a need for excessive attention, and a lack of empathy, according to the Mayo Clinic. Cannon admitted that he displayed nearly all the markers for the condition, leading him to seek a formal diagnosis.
“I feel like there’s so many labels out there, but it’s like, to be able to embrace it and say, ‘Look, I’m healing. I need help. Show me.’ I just embrace mental health and therapy in such a strong way,” Cannon said. “To be able to say I’m an example for others, but also be healing during the self-process works too.”
The Masked Singer host emphasized that understanding his diagnosis has been empowering. “Call me whatever you want… now if I didn’t know what it was, then I’d have an issue with it,” he said.
Cannon’s journey comes amid a packed personal life, balancing multiple careers and fatherhood. The TV personality shares children with six different women, including twins Moroccan and Monroe, 13, with ex-wife Mariah Carey. His other children range in age from 1 to 7, making holidays like Thanksgiving a logistical challenge. “I’ve got a bunch of dinners,” he joked. “I know every house that needs to have the things that I really like.”
Despite his busy schedule, Cannon remains focused on growth. By publicly addressing his mental health, he’s setting an example of vulnerability and strength, showing that even those in the spotlight can take steps to improve.
