Film enthusiasts can finally get a taste of the explosive action and jaw-dropping stunts in the first trailer for Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning.
The eighth entry in the blockbuster franchise is rumored to be Tom Cruise’s final bow as Ethan Hunt, signaling the end of the iconic series for the foreseeable future. Aptly titled The Final Reckoning, the name nods back to the original title of Dead Reckoning Part 2 and teases a climactic conclusion to Ethan Hunt’s saga.
The trailer, released online early Monday, picks up where Dead Reckoning left off. Ethan and his loyal team are on a relentless quest to stop Gabriel from unleashing chaos across the globe. The mission sends them on a globe-trotting adventure in search of elusive keys that hold the fate of the world in balance.
Fans will be excited to see familiar faces making their return in this final chapter. Paris, portrayed by Pom Klementieff, is confirmed to be back despite her near-death experience in Dead Reckoning. It seems her character merely lost consciousness, and now she’s back as part of Ethan’s trusted team.
The biggest surprise in the trailer? The return of Angela Bassett as Erika Sloane, who last appeared in 2018’s Mission: Impossible – Fallout. Her character’s presence hints at a significant new role as the team faces off against Gabriel’s deadly machinations. However, exactly how Sloane fits into the intricate plot is yet to be revealed.
Notably absent from the trailer, but still confirmed for the film, are Parks and Recreation alum Nick Offerman and Ted Lasso star Hannah Waddingham. Their names appeared in Paramount’s official cast list, assuring fans they’ll be involved when the film hits the big screen.
Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning is set to bring an epic end to Ethan Hunt’s story when it arrives in theaters on May 23, 2025.
