A family stranded in the Atlantic Ocean had an unexpected encounter with magic when they were rescued by a Disney Cruise Line ship. The U.S. Coast Guard released new footage showing the heart-pounding rescue that took place on Sunday, revealing the life-saving efforts of the Disney Treasure crew.

The ordeal began when a married couple, their daughter, and a cousin were sailing on their 50-foot catamaran, The Serenity, approximately 230 miles off the coast of Bermuda. Disaster struck when a malfunction in the escape hatch caused the vessel to take on water and start sinking. The family sent out a distress signal, hoping for a miracle.

Enter the Disney Treasure — the newest addition to Disney’s fleet, which was en route from the Netherlands to Port Canaveral, Florida. Positioned around 80 miles away from the sinking catamaran, the ship answered the call and reached The Serenity within an hour. The rescue, captured in U.S. Coast Guard footage, shows a lifeboat dispatched from the Disney Treasure speeding toward the catamaran and bringing all four passengers to safety. Thankfully, there were no injuries reported.

A U.S. Coast Guard official noted that the four, ranging in age from 24 to 74, were prepared to float and wait for help if needed. Without the timely intervention of the Disney Treasure, their situation could have been much more dire. The incident took place roughly 1,000 miles east of the Florida coast.
