Britney Spears is reconnecting with her son, Jayden James Federline, after years of estrangement, according to Page Six.
The 18-year-old, who had been living in Hawaii with his older brother, Sean Preston, and their father, Kevin Federline, has been spending significant time back in California, where his pop star mother resides.
“They have been spending a lot of time together,” one source to the publication, marking a significant step forward in their relationship. Although it’s unclear if Jayden is staying at Spears’ $7.4 million Thousand Oaks mansion, insiders confirm that Preston remains in Hawaii.
“Britney is thrilled to have her baby back,” a second source notes. “Everything is moving in the right direction.”
The reunion follows a Mother’s Day phone call from both boys in May, which Kevin Federline’s lawyer, Mark Vincent Kaplan, described as “a good sign” for reconciliation. “Obviously, a reconciliation/reunification is somewhat complex and can be a process that takes some time,” Kaplan said back inJune, adding that Federline “supports the boys having a relationship with their mother.”
The Federline family’s move to Hawaii in August 2023 came after Kevin’s wife, Victoria Prince, accepted a job as a volleyball coach at the University of Hawaii. Spears had consented to the relocation, although she did not see her sons before they left due to their strained relationship.
Jayden had previously opened up about the complexities between him and his mother during a September 2022 interview with the UK’s ITV, stating, “I 100 percent think this can be fixed. It’s just going to take a lot of time and effort. I just want her to get better mentally. When she gets better, I really want to see her again.”
He also voiced concerns about Spears’ frequent nude social media posts, saying, “It’s almost like she has to post something on Instagram to get some attention,” and claimed that Sean Preston felt neglected in terms of “equal love” and “attention.”
Despite past tensions, Spears showed her enduring love for her children by dedicating her memoir, The Woman in Me, released in October 2023, to them, calling Jayden and Preston the “loves of [her] life.”
This reunion signals a hopeful new chapter for Spears and her family as they work towards healing and rebuilding their bond.
