Ed Sheeran has established himself as one of the most popular musicians in the modern era thanks to massive hits such as Shape Of YouThinking Out Loud and more. The music sensation has amassed millions of fans across the globe. That being said, it seems Ed Sheeran suffered from a binge eating disorder in the past.

The singer has also made a ton of money back in 2020 and it is highly likely he will make even more soon. Just like any other person, Ed Sheeran has a variety of interests outside of his own music.

Sheeran recently opened up about his struggles with eating disorders. In a candid interview with Rolling Stone, Sheeran revealed how early in his career he used to compare his body to those of other up-and-coming singers, which eventually led to binging and purging food.

Sheeran admitted that he was already self-conscious, but being in an industry where he was constantly compared to other pop stars only made it worse. He cited his time in the One Direction wave as an example, where he felt pressure to have a six-pack like his peers.

However, he realized that his love for kebabs and beer was the reason why he didn’t have one. He also pointed out that he felt inferior to other artists, such as Justin Bieber and Shawn Mendes, who he felt had fantastic figures.

“I’m self-conscious anyway, but you get into an industry where you’re getting compared to every other pop star. I was in the One Direction wave, and I’m like, ‘Well, why don’t I have a six pack?’ And I was like, ‘Oh, because you love kebabs and drink beer.’ Then you do songs with Justin Bieber and Shawn Mendes.

All these people have fantastic figures. And I was always like, ‘Well, why am I so … fat?

Unfortunately, Sheeran’s negative thoughts and feelings about his body escalated to the point of developing disordered eating habits. He shared that he related heavily to Elton John, who revealed in his memoir “Me” that he had struggled with bulimia for six years. Sheeran acknowledged the stigma that men face when it comes to body image issues.

“There’s certain things that, as a man talking about them, I feel mad uncomfortable,” he confessed, referring to the stigma men face when it comes to body image issues. “I know people are going to see it a type of way, but it’s good to be honest about them. Because so many people do the same thing and hide it as well.”

While Sheeran has made some positive changes in his lifestyle, such as quitting heavy drinking and developing new exercise habits, he still struggles with what he calls “a real eating problem.” However, instead of binging on food, he has transitioned that energy into fitness.

“I’m a real binge-eater. I’m a binge-everything. But I’m now more of a binge exerciser, and a binge dad. And work, obviously.”

Ed Sheeran certainly had to face a lot of hardships thanks to his meteoric rise to the top of the music industry. Despite that, he has managed to keep his life together and that is all that matters.
