Lil Wayne is widely regarded as one of the biggest names in the hip-hop world, having created a plethora of classic tracks over the years. He has a deep passion for tattoos, and his body is a testament to his love for ink. However, despite his success, Lil Wayne has had a difficult life, even attempting suicide during his childhood. Given his prominence in the industry, it is not uncommon for him to be compared to emerging new rappers. That being said, it seems Lil Wayne rapped Drake’s email name in a song when they first met.
Weezy is also well aware of the new generation of rappers in the industry right now and never shies away from giving the rub to a select few whom he deems worthy. He did so for Rich The Kid previously.
Drake reminisced about his initial foray into Lil Wayne’s Young Money Records with great affection. Their relationship began so quickly that they didn’t even have a chance for a proper introduction.
While chatting with Lil Yachty on their trip to Turks and Caicos, Drake shared a delightful anecdote about how Wayne initially misunderstood his stage name. Apparently, during one of their early collaborations on the 2008 track “Ransom,” Wayne believed Drake’s name to be “Drizzy Drake Rogers.”
It turns out that Wayne’s misunderstanding of Drake’s name was due to a coincidence. Rogers is a major internet provider in Canada, and Wayne assumed that it was Drake’s last name since they were exchanging music tracks via email.
Drake only realized the error after “Ransom” was released, but he didn’t have the heart to correct his mentor. Despite the mix-up, Drake and Wayne went on to build a strong relationship that has endured throughout the years.
